How to get help in a mental health crisis

In life threatening situations, always call 999 or attend the nearest Emergency Department (A&E).

A mental health crisis (sometimes also called a mental health emergency) is when a person’s mental or emotional state worsens quickly. It often means that you no longer feel able to cope or be in control of your situation.

If you or a loved one is experiencing a mental health crisis and need help right away, support is available. There are people who care and want to help you:

  • NHS 111 Wales – Press Option 2 – available 24/7 365 days a year

    If you need to talk to someone – or you’re concerned about a loved one – call 111 and select option 2 to speak to a dedicated member of the mental health team.

    The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week – offering urgent mental health support to people of all ages across North Wales.

    The number is free to call from a landline or mobile, even if you have no credit left.

    C.A.L.L. is the all-Wales mental health helpline available 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. Offering a free bilingual helpline.

    The helpline offers emotional support to people experiencing mental health issues as well as their family, friends and carers.

    Anyone concerned about their own mental health or that of a relative or friend can access the service. C.A.L.L. Helpline offers a confidential listening and support service.

    The Samaritans offer a safe place for you to talk any time you like, in your own way – about whatever’s getting to you. They won’t judge you or tell you what to do, we’ll listen to you. The telephone service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
